It is a condition of your Student immigration permission that you are fully engaged with your UEA studies. Failure to engage can result in UEA withdrawing sponsorship of your visa.
Throughout your studies, you are expected to attend all timetabled teaching events, including lectures, seminars, lab sessions, and complete all examinations and assessments. You should also attend any meetings your Adviser or Supervisor arranges with you.
Reporting an Absence
If you are unable to attend a timetabled event or meeting you must report this via the Online Absence Reporting System (OARS) on e:Vision. You should do this as soon as you are aware that you will not be able to engage with your studies at any point during term-time.
Advance Notice
If there is a reason that you know you are going to be absent in the future, you can seek permission for this in advance, also using OARS. You should discuss your absence with your Adviser or Course Director in advance of making plans. You may be asked to supply evidence for your absence request.
Assessments and Exams
If your absence is going to impact one or multiple assessments, you may need to submit an Exceptional Circumstances request via e:Vision, as well as reporting the absence.
Extended Absence / Interruption to Study
If your absence will be likely to affect your ability to complete your course on time, or there is something affecting your ability to study over an extended period, it may be necessary for you take an interruption to study. You should discuss this with your Adviser, in the first instance.
UEA is generally unable to maintain sponsorship of your visa whilst you are taking an interruption. This is because your Student visa is to facilitate study in the UK. If you are not studying due to taking an interruption, UEA has a duty to report this to UK Visas and Immigration and withdraw sponsorship of your Student visa. When sponsorship is withdrawn, our Student Visa Compliance team will contact you by email to let you know. They will also advise that you make plans to leave the UK at your earliest, practical opportunity, to protect your immigration status.
When you were ready to return, you would then need to apply for a new Student visa.
If you think you might need to take an interruption and would like to discuss the effect of this on your Student visa permission, please contact Student Life International for advice and support.
