On this Marketing and Management BA, you’ll explore the essential elements of marketing, from a theoretical and practical perspective.
Marketing is primarily concerned with understanding markets and the needs and wants of existing and potential customers. To better understand these principles, you’ll explore several approaches, including: consumer behaviour, segmenting, targeting, positioning, pricing, and marketing communications. You will also examine the theoretical frameworks that underpin the way organisations respond to market demand.
By studying marketing and management together, you’ll gain a unique insight into the continuous changes and challenges of the business world.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore contemporary issues in marketing and develop skills in innovative and sustainable marketing strategy, planning effective marketing communication, and utilising digital marketing and social media channels, understanding consumer behavior and cultures, and analysing customer insights through market research. As part of this course, you will also gain experience, expertise and confidence in communicating innovative marketing ideas through group presentations, professional project reports and even short-form video artefacts.
Alongside the study of marketing, you will also develop skills in managing modern organisations, such as understanding and analysing the business environment, managing and processing digital data, and strategic awareness and analysis, as well as transferable employability skills through an applied business project.

Accreditations
The BA Marketing and Management is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). When you successfully complete this BA degree you should qualify for CIM examination exemptions at Level 4 (first year) and Level 6 (third year).
Study and Modules
Structure
Students studying for a BA share a common first year. This structure means you’ll get a broad view of business and can be confident you are on the right course for you. As you progress through your degree you will be able to specialise and tailor your studies to the areas that you find most interesting and that are most relevant for your career goals.
Across six fascinating core modules, you’ll explore the essentials of modern business. This will provide an excellent grounding not just in marketing and management areas, such as principles of marketing and managing organisations, but also in finance and accounting, understanding the business environment, and managing data in a digital world.
The first year culminates in the application of this knowledge within an applied business project.
Therefore, by the end of your first year, you won’t just have a firm foundation in your chosen subject; you will understand all the key disciplines within organisations that will help your future career. Should you discover during your first year that your true passion lies with one of the other BA subject areas, you are also welcome to change pathways.
Compulsory Modules
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.

Independent and self-directed study
You’ll also learn through self-directed study – a skill that’s highly valued by employers. You will have the opportunity to lead and develop several projects focusing on and evaluating the marketing strategies and plans of real-world organisations. For example, our students have worked with several local and regional businesses on past projects.
Teamwork and communication
During your first year, and some of your second and third year modules, you’ll work alongside students from other degrees. You will also have the chance to deepen your understanding of topics through discussion with your peers. This will build your teamwork and communication skills, as well as helping you gain insight into other disciplines.
Guest speakers
During your time at UEA, you’ll gain unique insights from leading industry figures, including recent Norwich Business School alumni. Previously, we have invited guest speakers with expertise in digital marketing, market research and branding. These presentations provide an understanding of the transition from student to business life, with speakers openly sharing their experiences and advice.
Employability
Your career is our priority, and employability is embedded in our degrees in all sorts of innovative ways, from industry guest speakers and projects with real businesses to our flagship Employability Week. During these events, you can meet potential employers and speak to UEA alumni about how they have progressed their career.
Assessment
Our assessments are generally at the individual and group level. These include (but are not limited to) presentations, reports, essays, multiple choice test and written exams. They combine theoretical understanding with practical application. As a result, you will have the opportunity to gain and demonstrate a range of skills and competencies, such as critical thinking, research, analysis and creativity.
All assessments are commonly weighted according to the course level.
Structure
After a first year spent discovering the fundamentals of business, in the second year you’ll focus on core marketing and management functions, such as marketing communications and strategic awareness and analysis. You will also be able to choose from a range of optional modules, allowing you to try different things, explore your interests, and discover where your talents and ambitions lie.

In your final year, you will study advanced marketing concepts, including consumers, markets and cultures with strategic management. There is also a range of options, as well as the opportunity to undertake a final year project. This will prepare you for a focused but holistic view of the marketing function in business, while also enabling you to prepare for a range of careers in marketing and management.

- ABB excluding General Studies. If you are taking an EPQ and three A-levels, we may offer you a one grade reduction on our advertised typical offer alongside an A in the EPQ.
- T Levels
- Obtain an overall Pass including a B in the core of the T Level and a Distinction in the Occupational Specialism. Acceptable subjects: Digital Business Services, Digital Support Services, Science, Accounting, Finance, Management and Administration.
- BTEC
- DDM Excluding BTEC Public Services, Uniformed Services and Business Administration. See below for accepted subjects and combinations.

Applications from students whose first language is not English are welcome. We require evidence of proficiency in English (including writing, speaking, listening and reading):

- Interviews
Most applicants will not be called for an interview and a decision will be made via UCAS Hub. However, for some applicants an interview will be requested. Where an interview is required, the Admissions Service will contact you directly to arrange a time.
- Deferred Entry
We welcome applications from students who have already taken or intend to take a gap year. We believe that a year between school and university can be of substantial benefit. You are advised to indicate your reason for wishing to defer entry on your UCAS application.
- Intakes
This course is open to UK and International applicants. The annual intake is in September each year.

Employability
After the Course
The Marketing and Management BA is the ideal steppingstone if you aspire to a career in marketing, digital marketing, market research, social media and PR, or even to start your own marketing consultancy.
You could go on to work as a marketing/digital marketing executive or manager in a large or multinational company. Alternatively, you could work as a brand manager, relationship manager, campaign or events manager.
