Why you should choose us
Course Overview
Marketing is a fast-moving and crucial business function. It has been through a tech-driven revolution over the last 20 years. With Google, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram & Tik Tok now accounting for the lion’s share of global advertising revenues, marketing now has to be more targeted, measurable, and effective than ever before.
Combine a passion for marketing and an interest in management, this course provides you with a set of leading-edge skills with a thorough grounding in management and prepare yourself for a range of exciting marketing careers.
Choosing to study our Marketing and Management Degree Course at Norwich Business School, you will have the opportunity to develop knowledge in managing modern organisations and understand relevant marketing principles. You will gain experience and expertise in developing innovative and sustainable marketing campaigns. We offer a wide range of modules to choose from; you will be able to shape your own degree.
Our BA Marketing and Management degree is ranked 6th for Marketing and Public Relations and in the top 20 for Business and Management by 'The Guardian University Guide 2023'.
On this Marketing and Management BA, you’ll explore the essential elements of marketing, from a theoretical and practical perspective.
Marketing is primarily concerned with understanding markets and the needs and wants of existing and potential customers. To better understand these principles, you’ll explore several approaches, including: consumer behaviour, segmenting, targeting, positioning, pricing, and marketing communications. You will also examine the theoretical frameworks that underpin the way organisations respond to market demand.
By studying marketing and management together, you’ll gain a unique insight into the continuous changes and challenges of the business world.
You’ll have the opportunity to explore contemporary issues in marketing and develop skills in innovative and sustainable marketing strategy, planning effective marketing communication, and utilising digital marketing and social media channels, understanding consumer behavior and cultures, and analysing customer insights through market research. As part of this course, you will also gain experience, expertise and confidence in communicating innovative marketing ideas through group presentations, professional project reports and even short-form video artefacts.
Alongside the study of marketing, you will also develop skills in managing modern organisations, such as understanding and analysing the business environment, managing and processing digital data, and strategic awareness and analysis, as well as transferable employability skills through an applied business project.
Norwich Business School is a friendly and supportive school, with a lively, proactive and international cohort. All our teaching is informed by our real-world business experience and expertise, as well as our world-leading research.
With this course variant, you’ll also have the chance to put your skills to the test on a placement year, gaining valuable experience in a working environment and acquiring new skills to add to your already highly employable skillset.
Placement Year and Study Abroad
You’ll spend your third year working in a placement that you arrange, with an employer and/or area of marketing or management, of most relevance to you. This will give you valuable work experience and the chance to build your professional skills and confidence, which is a great advantage in today’s competitive job market. You will return to UEA in the fourth year to complete your studies.
Accreditations
The BA Marketing and Management with a Year in Industry is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). When you successfully complete this BA degree you should qualify for CIM examination exemptions at Level 4 (first year) and Level 6 (third year).
Study and Modules
Structure
Students studying for a BA share a common first year. This structure means you’ll get a broad view of business and can be confident you are on the right course for you. As you progress through your degree you will be able to specialise and tailor your studies to the areas that you find most interesting and that are most relevant for your career goals.
Across six fascinating core modules, you’ll explore the essentials of modern business. This will provide an excellent grounding not just in marketing and management areas, such as principles of marketing and managing organisations, but also in finance and accounting, understanding the business environment, and managing data in a digital world.
The first year culminates in the application of this knowledge within an applied business project.
Therefore, by the end of your first year, you won’t just have a firm foundation in your chosen subject; you will understand all the key disciplines within organisations that will help your future career. Should you discover during your first year that your true passion lies with one of the other BA subject areas, you are also welcome to change pathways.
Compulsory Modules
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
