Our postgraduate degrees
Our PhD programme
Parliamentary Studies
Our modules are designed to equip students with the skills they need to engage in debates and be future change makers. Throughout your time with us, you will be supported and inspired by our academic team within a community renowned for its strong pastoral support, including our embedded wellbeing team within the Faculty.
To support your studies, we also have an exciting range of extra-curricular activities, including Politics on Wednesdays, with a dynamic and world-leading programme of guest speakers. We also work closely with charities, think tanks, MPs, and both local and global organisations to offer students a range of work experience and placement opportunities, as well as encourage all students to think about spending a semester aboard.
After your degree
An understanding of politics and society is valuable to employers beyond those working directly in politics. A significant number of our graduates enter local and national government, international organisations and policy or campaigning bodies. Public affairs, political analysis, the media and policymaking are also popular areas of work. Many other graduates go into areas such as business, public relations, finance, the law and health and social care.
Student testimonials:
Alex Burov - BA International Relations and Politics
PPA has had many tumultuous times over the 4 years I stayed at UEA. From strikes, to Covid, the department made sure that students were the least affected. The academic staff are professional, yet empathetic. I always felt like advice was accessible and helpful. Events like Politics on Wednesdays injected exciting new topics and individuals to explore and listen to. I think that PPA is indispensable as a humanities department.
Jada Olsen - MA Media, Culture and Society
When looking for a place to complete my postgraduate degree, I wanted to find a program that respected and understood my dedication to multidisciplinary approaches and that could translate that into my studies. The Media, Culture and Society program (MA) has done just that. Coming from a background that involved both Sociology and Public Relations, the course allows me to explore both of those subjects and everything in between. From learning the history of cultural studies to the impacts of ever-changing media law to explorations of digital technology, all students are able to find their interests. We are able to take a range of classes that cover all topics. In each class, I find myself invested in the learning material while still being able to converse with my peers about the information we are digesting. PPA has provided me with an enriching experience that will fuel my future studies and career and will leave me with unforgettable memories.

This work supports the provision of effective customer service by HMRC to the banking sector in order to support banks to comply with UK Tax legislation.
