The University is fully committed to ensuring that all research undertaken by UEA staff and students is carried out to the highest professional standards of research integrity, and that all researchers uphold the principles set out in the 2019 Concordat to Support Research Integrity; the UK's national framework for research integrity.
Overall individual responsibility for maintaining the highest standards of research integrity at the University rests with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Julian Blow. Institutional responsibility for maintaining the highest standards of research integrity and ethics rests with the University Research Ethics Committee (UREC); the Chair of UREC is Dr Kate Russell.
Research integrity underpins research excellence and lies at the heart of a healthy and positive research culture at UEA. Maintaining and developing the University’s commitment to high standards of research integrity are a key component of the University’s Research and Innovation Strategy 2024-30. They are also embedded in the University’s core values, and UEA Strategy 2030.
The principles of Research Integrity that frame our research are taken from the above Concordat and include the following five integrity principles in all areas of research:
Honesty
Rigour
Transparency and open communication
Care and respect
Accountability
Any proposed research and innovation activity and acceptance of any associated external funding need to be consistent with the University’s stated principles and standards of integrity and ethical practice which was approved by UEA Council.
