more...Irene Biza is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education in the School of Education (EDU) University of East Anglia. She has an MA and PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Athens, Greece. She worked for several years as a secondary mathematics teacher and as research/development officer in Greece. After the completion of her PhD in 2008 she became Associate Tutor and Visiting Research Fellow in EDU before taking a Lectureship in Mathematics Education at the Mathematics Education Centre at Loughborough University in 2010 and up to 2013. She rejoined UEA in 2013.

She taught for 25 years in primary education and currently she is a Professor in the Post Graduate Program in Mathematics Education at Anhanguera University of São Paulo (UNIAN). Her research interests focus on teachers’ and students’ practices in inclusive or special schools, inserted into classroom or working at a distance, and on planning of instructional environments in which everyone, regardless of their educational needs, can interact and learn.

more...Lulu Healy is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Kings College London. She was Professor of Mathematics Education at the Anhanguera University of São Paulo (UNIAN) until 2017. She worked in Brazil from 2002-17, following a research post in mathematics education at the then Institute of Education (UK) in London. Her research interests include the use of digital technologies in the teaching and learning of mathematics, and especially on the design of innovative ways of doing and expressing school mathematics. She is particularly interested in the challenges associated with the building of a more inclusive school mathematics and in understanding the mathematical practices of learners with disabilities.

She completed a doctorate degree in Mathematics Education at the University of East Anglia. She has worked in Education Studies, including initial teacher training since 2008 and is active in research, for example, in teacher affect in mathematics education.

more...Elena Nardi is currently a Professor of Mathematics Education in the School of Education (EDU) at the University of East Anglia (Norwich, UK). Her research is in a range of areas of mathematics education, with a particular emphasis on: the teaching and learning of mathematics at university level; cognitive, social and affective issues of secondary students’ engagement with mathematics; secondary mathematics teachers’ epistemological and pedagogical knowledge and beliefs; and, public perceptions of mathematics and science. Alongside CAPTeaM she is also co-I to the RCUK funded SUPI project (School and Universities Partnership Initiative). Elena is a advisory editor / editorial board of Research in Mathematics Education, Educational Studies in Mathematics, Mathematical Thinking and Learning and the International Journal for Research in Undergraduate Mathematics Education. Her monograph Amongst Mathematicians: Teaching and Learning Mathematics at University Level was published by Springer in 2008.

She is faculty member at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), Department of Mathematics (Seropédica campus). She also works in continuing education programs for teachers in lower and upper grades of elementary and high school in the area of mathematics and educational technologies.

more...Malcolm Sinclair is a Qualified Advisory Teacher of the Deaf. He is profoundly deaf and a sign language user. As part of his role he teaches mathematics and empowers young deaf people to develop their skills in mathematics. He is also involved in a University of Edinburgh research group to incorporate BSL in mathematics. For the last two years he has been working alongside the CAPTeaM at University of East Anglia. He believes teachers in mainstream schools may benefit from contributing their knowledge and skills on how to teach children with varying disabilities.

Angeliki Stylianidou has a bachelor’s degree in Primary Education from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and an MA in Mathematics Education from the University of East Anglia. She worked for 2 years in a primary school in England as a teaching assistant with specialism in mathematics, supporting pupils from all mathematical levels in and outside the classroom. She is currently a PhD student in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of East Anglia and a holder of a university doctoral studentship. Her research focuses on the inclusion of visually impaired pupils in mainstream primary mathematics classrooms.
