Temple University is a public institution that was founded in 1888. It has a total undergraduate enrolment of 27,567 students. Located right in the heart of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and with approximately 39,000 students from all 50 states and 123 nations, Temple is the 28th largest university and the fourth largest provider of professional education in the United States.
Owing to its vibrant population, Temple University has a rich and dynamic student life. There are 24 intercollegiate men's and women's Division I athletic teams, more than 500 arts events every year and more than 300 student organisations. Temple University is also actively engaged with the community- there are hundreds of community engagement programmes. While Temple is anchored in Philadelphia, it has a truly international reach. The university has nine campuses, including ones in Rome and Tokyo (the largest and oldest American university in Japan) and more than 80 educational partnerships with institutions around the world.

Philadelphia is a historically significant city in the US and is considered the birthplace of the United States. Key historic sites include Independence Hall (one of the only World Heritage sites in the country and where the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were drafted and signed) and the Liberty Bell (a symbol of abolitionist movement).
