Simon Fraser University (SFU) is a Canadian public research university in British Columbia with its main campus on Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby, and operates satellite campuses in downtown Vancouver and Surrey. The university was named after Simon Fraser, a North West Company fur trader and explorer.
The main campus on Burnaby Mountain, located 20 km from downtown Vancouver, was established in 1965 and comprises more than 30,000 students and approximately 950 faculty members. The university is adjacent to an urban village, UniverCity. UniverCity has won several awards for sustainable planning and development.
If you're based in the centre of Vancouver, the great outdoors will never be far away – beaches, forest and stunning mountains are all within reach.
For many, proximity to some of the world's best ski resorts will provide a major draw. But there's also plenty to do if you're not a snow sports fanatic: great nightlife, theatre, music – everything you'd expect from a vibrant, multicultural metropolis.
