Why choose Gakushuin
Gakushuin University is a private university, an elite higher educational institution in Mejiro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo. It was re-established after World War II to educate the children of the Japanese nobility. The Gakushuin University is still one of the most prestigious universities in Japan, having most of the members of the present Imperial Family as former or present students. The average number of students has been capped so that each student can receive personal attention from the staff.
A range of Japanese language classes is provided for the foreign students; and though designed for Japanese students, approximately 60 classes are held in English.
Gakushuin currently has around 130 officially recognised clubs - some with long established histories and traditions, others only recently formed. Some 80% of the total student body participate actively in some form of club activity. These include many sporting clubs such as kendo, judo, baseball, tennis, horse riding, golf, football, and so on. Cultural activity clubs include the Music Club, Japanese chess, drama, tea ceremony, Zen Buddhist meditation, etc.
The campus is ideally located for student life. Mejiro is close to Shinjuku, Ikebukuro and Shibuya, which are popular among young people as shopping areas and amusement spots.
Off campus, Tokyo is yours to enjoy. Public transport works well here so there are endless places to explore and to get to know the famous Japanese capital city.
