Start your UEA Study Abroad journey now
Applications for Academic Year 2024-25 are open now! Please contact your home universities to be nominated - or apply independently through the link below.
Please complete the Module Chooser spreadsheet and upload this to your Study Abroad application. We ask for at least 9 choices per semester in case of timetable clashes or classes being full.
All exchange students need to be nominated directly to us by their home university (one of our partner universities).
All fee-paying students from a partner university need to be nominated to us by their home university.
All independent fee-paying students require an academic reference from their current home university.
All applicants are expected to be in good academic standing at their home university with a grade equivalent to a UK system upper second class (60%).
Required Documents
You must provide a copy of your valid travel document(s) before travelling to the UK. Inform us of any changes to your travel document(s) prior to your arrival.
You must provide us with an official transcript indicating your most recent grades, including a stamp or signature or other seal of authenticity from your home university. If your official transcript is not in English, you will be required to provide an official translation as part of your application.
English Language
Citizens of majority English-speaking countries and students currently studying in the US are not required to provide proof of English language proficiency. All other applicants must demonstrate the necessary level of English as stated below.
Applicants with IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 6.0 in Writing and Speaking and 5.5 in Reading and Listening, may take any module in Economics, and Language and Communication Studies. Applicants with these scores may also take first year modules (Level 4) in any school, apart from in the schools of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, Chemistry, and Pharmacy.
For all other modules (Level 5 and 6), and all modules in Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, Chemistry, and Pharmacy, applicants must receive an IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in each category.
English language qualification waiver
For students who are studying a degree taught exclusively in English at your home university, plan to come to UEA for a semester only, and who obtain the Visitor visa (rather than the Student visa). This means that you can submit a letter from your home university that confirms you have at least IELTS 6.5 / high B2 level English, and that you are studying a degree taught exclusively in English.
If your proof of English language is not in English, you are required to provide a translation as part of your application.
We can accept:
a signed and stamped letter from your home university confirming the grade you received in English on the certificate, or
a full translation done by an official translator, or by your home institution (signed and stamped).
If you require any clarification about language testing or accepted level of English entry scores, please email visiting.uea@uea.ac.uk.
Students with lower English levels may apply on a fee-basis to our partner INTO for short English programmes, including Pre-Sessional Programmes and Study Abroad With English.
