Progressing to Postgraduate Study
)
Thinking about postgraduate study?
You don’t have to have it all figured out. We’ll help you understand your postgraduate study options to help you decide what’s right for you.
Here are some helpful first steps:
Is postgraduate study right for me?
Postgraduate study isn't just about academic progression. A postgraduate course could be right for you if you'd like to:
study a subject you enjoy in more depth
improve your career prospects or earning potential
retrain or change career direction
prepare for PhD or research careers
stand out in a competitive job market
give yourself time to develop your career ideas
At UEA, our postgraduate courses are designed to help you apply what you learn to your academic, professional and personal goals.
Who can study a postgraduate course?
You don’t need a first‑class degree to study at postgraduate level.
Typically, you’ll need:
an undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
relevant professional experience (for some courses)
Each course has its own entry requirements, so it’s always worth checking individual course pages.
When you apply for a postgraduate course, you’ll need a personal statement and references. For some courses, you may also need a portfolio of your work.
How do I fund my postgraduate studies?
There are several ways to fund your postgraduate study, including:
a Postgraduate Master's or Doctoral Loan through Student Finance providers
scholarships and bursaries
employer sponsorship
self‑funding or spreading the cost with flexible payment options
Funding availability for your postgraduate studies varies by course, mode of study and residency status.
UEA students and graduates can benefit from our Alumni Scholarships, including a 10% fee reduction on most postgraduate courses, or 30% if you finish your undergraduate degree with first‑class honours.
