My name is Guro, and I am a former Global Development with Social Anthropology and Politics student. I chose this course and UEA because it is one of the best in the country, both for the course and for student satisfaction. I visited the campus before I started to study here, and I fell in love with the beautiful nature and with the campus. UEA is not in a city centre, but you can still find everything you need on or around campus. Another thing I love about UEA, is the people and all the different societies and clubs. UEA has everything, from football and rugby to knitting and baking, and the people in the societies are welcoming and friendly. To join societies and clubs is a great way to meet people outside of your own course, and some of my best friends are people I met in different societies.
Another aspect of the student social life at UEA is the Union pub and the LCR. These are both places where people go to meet friends, and it is conveniently placed on campus. The LCR is open every Tuesday and every Saturday, with house and guest DJs, as well as concerts by bands such as Passenger and the Kooks.
UEA made studying easy. The library is open 24/7 all year around, and for people who are not that well organized and might need to pull an all-nighter, the helpfulness of the library and its staff is a gift. The UEA staff can help you with anything you need, be it IT, how to reference, maths, student loans and finance or anything else for that matter. The lecturers are very nice and friendly, and if you need any help you can always easily find someone to help you.
It is also easy to head into town. I thought it would be difficult to understand the bus routes, but it could not be easier! Norwich is a wonderful city. Coming from a small town with only 12 000 inhabitants, I was a bit scared to move to a bigger city all by myself. However, Norwich has everything a big city should have, but it still has that small-town feeling. I always feel safe walking around in Norwich, and every time I go to town I find new streets and shops I have not seen before. The city is beautiful and historical, and it has everything anyone could ever need.
When I decided I wanted to go abroad to study, I was a bit intimidated by the whole process, and especially UCAS. Coming from Norway, where I am used to the application process for university being quite straightforward, UCAS seemed more complicated. However, it turned out to not be quite as difficult as I thought. When I first arrived at UEA, I was also scared as to what this strange place would be like. Due to the great way UEA welcomes international students, I soon made friends, and I can also honestly say that UEA is the best thing that ever happened to me. I have learnt a lot about people from different countries, and I have also learnt a lot about myself.
