What do studentships cover?
A studentship is an award which pays some or all of your fees and a maintenance stipend to cover your living expenses. It normally also covers additional costs such as any laboratory bench fees. However it will not cover any charges for late submission of a thesis (continuation fees) or resubmission of a thesis (reassessment fees).
Some offers of a place on a research degree at UEA will also include an offer of a funded studentship. Other offers will only be for the opportunity to register as a student, and will not include any funding support.
Please read the current Terms and Conditions for UEA Postgraduate Research Studentships.
Stipends
If you are to receive a maintenance stipend paid through UEA, this will be made clear in your offer letter.
So that we can arrange for your postgraduate research maintenance grant/stipend to be paid directly into your bank account you must provide your bank details, at least fifteen working days before pay day (28th of each month).

Your maintenance grant/stipend will be paid by UEA Payroll monthly in advance, on or before the 28th of each month.
Payments can only be made into a UK bank account. If you are not a UK resident you may need to open a UK bank account to receive your payment, but may experience difficulties with this as many banks require a UK address and a letter from the University confirming your details. If this is the case we will be able assist you once you have arrived at the University.
Reimbursements
Should you interrupt, fail to register or withdraw from your degree programme the University will request any overpayment to be reimbursed. Should your progress and/or attendance be unsatisfactory the University reserves the right to stop maintenance stipend payments as appropriate.
