The Concordat to Support Research Integrity provides a national framework for good research practice and governance. First published in 2012, the Concordat was developed by Universities UK alongside research funders, organisations and Government departments. It was subsequently revised in October 2019 and is undergoing its five-year review in 2024. UEA fully supports the Concordat, and researchers are expected to uphold the principles set out in the revised 2019 edition.
The Concordat sets out responsibilities for the University, its researchers as well as the funders of our research in five areas, to ensure that the University’s research is underpinned by the highest standards of research integrity:
Commitment 1: uphold the highest standards of rigour and integrity in all aspects of research.
Commitment 2: ensure that research is conducted according to appropriate ethical, legal and professional frameworks, obligations and standards.
Commitment 3: support a research environment that is underpinned by a culture of integrity and based on good governance, best practice, and support for the development of researchers.
Commitment 4: use transparent, timely, robust and fair processes to handle allegations of research misconduct when they arise.
Commitment 5: work together to strengthen the integrity of research.
Commitment 5 of the Concordat requires the University to produce an annual report summarising the actions and activities that have been undertaken to support and strengthen understanding and the application of research integrity issues in the 12-month reporting period, that is presented to the UEA Council and subsequently made available to the public.
