Prof Beatriz de la Iglesia, Head of the School of Computing Sciences, said: “Our academics and students are at the forefront of data science and artificial intelligence, with recent projects such as developing an AI solution to seabed mapping, and our partnership with Google, making it into press and showcasing our expertise more widely. Becoming a member of this network means our ability to work with, learn from, and pass on our knowledge to other expert institutions is much easier.”
The network is made up of more than 40 UK universities, with each institution naming a Turing liaison as the primary contact person, for UEA this will be Dr Jason Lines, Associate Professor in Computing Sciences.
Dr Lines, said, “At UEA we are delighted to be joining the Turing University Network as there is great interest in data science and AI from not only within the School of Computing Sciences, but also from many schools across the Faculty of Science and University as a whole."
"Our researchers at UEA have always striven to tackle global, national, and regional challenges through cutting-edge interdisciplinary research. Joining the Turing University Network will open up many new possibilities to allow us to continue developing solutions to our diverse portfolio of research challenges, boosted by advances in the fields of data science and AI, while also adding additional expertise by working alongside collaborators from leading institutions across the county.”
Joining The Turing University Network demonstrates UEA's dedication to being at the forefront of cutting edge data science and AI research in the UK to not only solve today's challenges, but to also prepare for emerging challenges in the future.
Prof Brian Reid, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said: “The Turing Network has three inspiring goals; to advance world-class research and apply it to national and global challenges, build skills for the future, and drive an informed public conversation. The AI and data science expertise embedded within UEA means we are very well placed to join this network and make the most of the excellent opportunities it will undoubtedly present. I’m excited to see where this collaboration will take UEA.”
