The Developmental Science research group use experimental, brain imaging and modelling approaches to reveal the mechanisms underpinning human typical and atypical cognitive and social development.
Their work has made significant contributions to our understanding of the development of cognition - including language, memory, theory of mind and moral judgements - and psychosocial factors such as attachment and childhood trauma.
The Developmental Lab houses an infant behaviour observation laboratory, eye tracking systems and near-infrared spectroscopy allowing the group to bring a variety of converging techniques to bear on the challenging problem of understanding how the human mind develops and changes through early life.
We are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Economic and Social Research Council and the British Academy.
