You’ll also learn how to use your professional judgment to understand and influence business decisions. You’ll even have the chance to explore how accounting influences wealth distribution in society, and how power can influence accounting.
Here at UEA, you’ll study in Norwich Business School which is located in a vibrant and welcoming region with a dynamic community of business innovation and enterprise. Study and Modules
Structure
Your studies will cover a range of finance, reporting, analysis and business management topics. Each module aims to extend your knowledge, building on your previous studies, and aims to enhance your critical thinking skills by encouraging you to think more deeply and broadly about the topic.
Your studies will become even more advanced as you go beyond learning about accounting and finance practical approaches and theories, and start to critically analyse them and come up with your own ideas. You’ll also delve into the most current debates facing the financial world today.
Compulsory Modules
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
Teaching and Learning
Teaching
Throughout your year of study, you’ll hone your skills and build your knowledge through a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops.
All our teaching is informed by the latest research and real-world business experience. That means you’ll benefit from the latest thinking in the industry. Business is ever-changing, so you won’t just learn to understand, evaluate and apply the leading theories of today, you’ll also develop the critical skills needed to examine and use new theories and methods that come to the fore during your future career.
Independent study
You’ll also learn through self-directed study – a skill that’s highly prised by employers. You’ll undertake IT lab work, using online resources to practise questions. You can also enhance your studies by getting involved in a number of student-led, extracurricular business societies.
Teamwork and communication
Within some modules, you’ll work alongside students from other Norwich Business School courses. This will build your teamwork and communication skills, as well as help you gain insight into other business disciplines. In our experience the best accounting and finance specialists are the ones who have not only technical knowledge but also the ability to communicate well with non-specialists. Working alongside other Norwich Business School students during your degree is a great way to develop this skill. We attract students from across the UK and all over the world, so the relationships you build here will be great practice if you aspire to an international career, or to work for a multinational company.
Guest speakers
Throughout your time at UEA you’ll have opportunities to gain insights from guest speakers from the business world. You’ll also hear from UEA alumni about their roles in business. These events will allow you to see the real-world application of what you’re learning and you’ll be able to connect with businesses as well as other students and staff across Norwich Business School.
Employability
Your career is our priority, and employability is embedded in our degrees in a variety of ways from guest speakers to our Careers Central service. During our flagship Employability Week, you can meet potential employers and speak to successful UEA alumni about how they achieved their goals. We also hold a Professional Skills week which helps you to develop valuable transferable skills such as networking and communication.

You’ll encounter various assessment methods across the different modules, contributing in various proportions to your overall module mark. Assessment methods include examinations, course tests, coursework, essays, reports, presentations and projects.
