INTRODUCTION
Credit value: 20 M Level credits for the introductory module (Policy, Practice and Evidence in Mental Health); 60 M Level credits for Post Graduate Certificate: Approved Mental Health Professional.
The credits from these modules can be put towards the MA in Advanced Social Work (180 credits).
This course is regulated by Social Work England.
Submission of summative assessed work:
- SWK 7011A: 3000-word Essay (hand in 11th Jan 2024)
- SWK 7009B: 4000-word Case Study and Self-Appraisal (hand in 18th May 2024)
- SWK 7010B: Portfolio (hand in 18th May 2024) and Law Test (8th May 2024)
INTRODUCTION
Applications are open to registered social workers, mental health/learning disability nurses, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists with at least two year’s post-qualified experience who are supported to undertake this course. Most participants are sponsored by their Local Authority and potential applicants should contact their agency representative about this.

COURSE STRUCUTRE:
Introductory Module (required):
- SWK-7011A: Policy, Practice and Evidence in Mental Health - 20 credits, part time, taken in autumn. This provides AMHP candidates with a foundation for the core AMHP modules. There is a separate flyer for this module as it is also available as a stand-alone module.
Core AMHP modules:
- SWK-7009B AMHP module 1 - 20 credits, taken in spring
- SWK- 7010B AMHP module 2 - 40 credits, taken in spring
These two modules are full time from 1st February 2024 -18th May 2024 and include a placement.
TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT
TEACHING DATES
1st Feb – 18th May 2024 full time, including teaching, study and a period of placement during March, April and early May.
Times: 9.30am – 4pm
Venue Details: Arrangements to be confirmed.
MODULE OUTCOMES
By the end of this programme successful students will be considered competent in the 5 Key Competence Areas for AMHP practice and will be eligible to apply for approval by their Local Authority. The Key Competence Areas can be found via this link.
TEACHING METHODS
Teaching and learning has an interdisciplinary approach and incorporates a mixture of directly taught material, discussions, group activities, direct4d and self-directed learning and a period of placement (minimum 35 days).
ASSESSMENT
Formative assessment takes place in all the modules.
Summative assessments are as follows:
- SWK 7011A: 3000-word Essay (hand in 11th Jan 2024)
- SWK 7009B: 4000-word Case Study and Self-Appraisal (hand in 18th May 2024)
- SWK 7010B: Portfolio (hand in 18th May 2024) and Law Test (8th May 2024)
