Module Overview / Introduction
This module will enable learners to further develop their advanced burn care skills and enhance their theoretical knowledge, which underpins practice (CC3N, Jan 2019). The credits obtained at Level 7, can be used toward the MSc Advanced Professional Practice Programme. The module will be hosted and delivered online by the Southeast England Burns Network with UEA quality and assessment oversight.
The module is designed to cover the patient journey commencing with the underlying pathophysiology of burn injury, followed by themed study days relating to - prehospital burn care and initial assessment, early burn care and surgical management, reducing the burden of injury, holistic and global perspective of burn care and complex burn injuries and skin loss. This Module consists of 6 taught days using a variety of different teaching methods, including lectures, workshops and demonstrations, exploration of case scenarios, presentations, specialist unit visits, for example, Queen Victoria Hospital, St Andrews, Chelsea and Westminster, Stoke Mandeville. participants are also required to undertake work-based learning for the duration of the module.
The Module content is aligned to the British Burns Association Burn Care Standards (BBA, 2018) and will embed clinical knowledge to achieve CC3N Advanced Burn Care Competencies (CC3N, 2019) on completion of the module.

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the skin, and the pathophysiology of burns to the assessment and management of acute burns patients across the life span
- Demonstrate evidence-based clinical competence in the assessment and management of burn injured patients with different levels of burn injury
- Discuss and interpret clinical data, and select appropriate therapeutic interventions within burn care
- Discuss and apply evidence-based care needs that will support accelerated healing when planning and delivering the care needs required by a burn injured patient
- Demonstrate and promote compassionate, person-and family-centred care that embraces the culture espoused by the 6 Cs (DH 2012)
Teaching & Assessment
6 Online Study Days over 12 weeks
Independent Study
20 credits = 200 effort hours
At least one study day per 2-week block of learning
Attendance expected at live (synchronous) tutorials and webinars
Practice assessment document and associated portfolio of evidence (2,000 words level 6)
Narrated service improvement presentation (15 minutes level 6 ).
Practice-based supervision and assessment is required by a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner who has completed UEA Practice Assessor Training or equivalent.
