Course Overview
Are you ready to join the forefront of the digital revolution in business? Our dynamic course addresses the worldwide shortage of graduates in digital business and provides you with vital experience and understanding of contemporary and emerging digital technologies. You'll master the management of these technologies and learn to communicate your expertise and collaborate effectively in fast-paced business environments, setting yourself up for a rewarding career.
The shortage of graduates with knowledge of digital business and the necessary skills to make digital businesses successful is recognised by governments, non-government agencies and leading technology companies. On this MSc in Digital Business and Management, you’ll explore how digital technologies are transforming businesses and markets, creating new opportunities for value creation, and disrupting traditional business models.
You’ll cultivate deep analytical and critical skills as you develop your understanding of digital transformation and business. You’ll also have the opportunity to examine the technological drivers of change and the roles people play in digital business.
Digitalisation has become key to business success worldwide. If you want to ensure you have the cutting-edge knowledge and skills needed for the future, and gain a competitive edge over other graduates, this course is your gateway.
After graduating, you’ll be prepared for a wide range of roles in digital business - whether in management, leadership, consulting, contracting, or even launching your own digital enterprise. Our comprehensive curriculum covers digital business, digital markets, emerging digital technologies, and digital transformation. This expertise is in high demand by employers and also provides a solid foundation for further academic study, such as a PhD.
Study and Modules
Structure
In the first semester you’ll be introduced to the digital business concept that advocates for the investment in cutting edge digital technologies to change business strategy and digitalise business operations, enhance customer experience, and change organisational culture. You’ll also study business operations and supply chain management to develop a critical understanding and appreciation of key operations and supply management theories and practice in modern, globalised and technology driven supply networks. In this semester you’ll also learn marketing theory and marketing practice and develop a thorough appreciation and understanding of the theoretical assumptions, debates and practices of this subject. Current developments in the marketing discipline will also be discussed alongside methodological advances coupled with social and technical changes.
In the second semester, you’ll study digital transformation as a critical element to digital business. By learning digital transformation, you’ll explore the strategic and tactical issues and challenges raised by digital technologies at the levels of firms, supply chains, business ecosystems and sectors whilst developing advanced analytical and planning skills. In this semester you’ll also learn how to answer business research questions, carry out research design and data interpretation ready to complete a dissertation
Also, in the second semester you’ll have the opportunity to choose from a range of subjects. For example, social media to develop further knowledge of marketing, enhance customer engagement, and foster social shopping and customer service. Alternatively, you could choose to study how to manage technology and innovation to improve business processes and differentiate products and services, and for digital businesses to outperform their competitors measured in terms of market share. Another possibility that you might choose to study is the organisational and individual level factors that affect the performance of employees in the work environment.
In the final semester you’ll complete a self-directed, supervised dissertation. This can take several forms but is a substantial piece of work that integrates and develops the knowledge and skills you’ve developed over the first two semesters.
Compulsory Modules
Optional A Modules
(Credits: 20)Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
