Course Overview
Our part-time Executive MBA has established an excellent track record of attracting successful, mature professionals from across East Anglia to study at UEA for over 30 years. Designed for those in middle to senior management positions, this dynamic programme is recognised as the gold-standard business and management qualification. By participating in our Executive MBA, you'll join a cohort of ambitious professionals who bring a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to the learning environment.
The overall aim of the course is to develop your analytical and strategic management skills. We utilise concepts derived from a wide range of academic disciplines, enabling you to respond creatively and effectively to the challenges of the business environment. The programme draws upon generic management knowledge and fosters essential skills of analysis, critical reasoning, and practical application. This holistic approach ensures you can add substantial value to your organisation.
Our part-time Executive MBA blends theoretical knowledge with workplace realities. The programme is delivered in the evenings online, with some sessions held on campus during weekends. You’ll take part in group work and lectures led by internationally recognised lecturers and business professionals who bring a wealth of experience and insights to the programme.
You’ll study the theoretical models characteristic of MBA programmes and develop your skills and competencies through the practical application of academic concepts. You’ll have the invaluable opportunity to network with other practising managers, professionals, and entrepreneurs within the cohort and the wider alumni group to enhance your professional growth.
At UEA, you’ll also benefit from the support of our dedicated career development service, helping you build both personal and professional skills to position yourself for future leadership roles.

Study and Modules
Structure
The programme is designed to allow busy professionals to balance the demands of study with work. It’s specifically tailored to offer flexibility while maintaining the rigour of a Master’s level qualification. Lectures and seminars are scheduled on full workdays and at weekends, enabling you to study while working full-time. Teaching is based around case study analysis, interactive discussion and supported by high quality blended learning materials. The first year focuses on four compulsory modules, to ensure you’ll learn about, discuss and analyse core business functions including: leadership, economics, marketing, and operations management.
Compulsory Modules
Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
Teaching and Learning
During your Executive MBA, your studies will be informed by the latest research and real-world business experience and delivered by high-quality business experts and academics in the Norwich Business School. You’ll learn to understand, evaluate and apply current thinking and develop the critical skills needed to take on a strategic leadership role within your current or future organisation.
The first year of your Executive MBA will focus on providing you with the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to better understand how an organisation works. Our teaching focuses on allowing you to understand real-life business challenges while studying the latest conceptual developments. We provide blended, flexible learning that allows you to engage with your cohort and lectures in both online and face to face settings.
You’ll be provided with a mix of bespoke technologies, videos and digital learning to enhance your experience. You’ll work both individually and in groups to apply the concepts discussed during the lectures to real-life managerial problems. During the first year, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with industry experts and discuss the key issues facing organisations.
Assessment
You’ll be assessed throughout the course using a variety of methods, including exams, assignments, group work and presentations.
Structure
In your second year, alongside compulsory modules you’ll have the flexibility to choose from a wide range of optional modules to tailor your studies around your interests. You’ll be able to choose from topics such as: entrepreneurship, sustainable management, finance, brand leadership, as well as professional and career impact. We also deliver part of the management consultancy project modules overseas.
You’ll take part in a group-based consultancy project where you’ll work with an external client organisation to deliver a substantive written report and presentation addressing a topic of strategic importance chosen by the client. This project is over the course of a month and includes a week in a European location.
A second project gives you the opportunity to act as an internal consultant for your employer. This is an extended research-based project of around three months again, concluding with a report and presentation around the theme of ‘What can I change around here?’ This immersive consultancy project is focused on delivering practical outcomes and benefits for the client, as well as providing you with valuable real-world experience of the challenges faced by businesses in international markets.

Teaching and Learning
Your second year will follow a similar pedagogic principle, where you’ll explore real-life business problems while being exposed to the latest research developments. Our teaching approach will continue to be blended, flexible, supportive, skills-based with a continuous focus on applying the learning to real-life business. During your second year, you’ll have the flexibility to tailor your learning by choosing optional modules.
At the end of your second year, with the management consultancy projects, you’ll learn to deliver work of practical and real-world benefit to clients in a consultancy context. The team-based exercise demands that you develop high-level skills in high-performance team environments and the individual project demonstrates that you can be the catalyst for change in your own organisation.
