FOI_24-346 Medicine with a Gateway Year
Date of response: 22 January 2025
We have now considered your request of 19 December 2024 for the following information:
I am writing to ask about the Medicine with a Gateway Year course.
Question 1. Firstly, what is the percentage of students (over the past 3 admissions cycles) who have passed the foundation year and have consequently proceeded on to the regular course?
Our response:
2024 | 2023 | 2022 |
---|---|---|
100% | 93% | 95% |
Question 2. Is it simply a case of successfully completing the foundation course or are there more steps involved?
Our response:
Yes, students must successfully complete the foundation course. There are no other steps involved should a student wish to proceed on to the MBBS Medicine course.
Question 3. Secondly, if a prospective student's final results for A Level greatly exceed the requirements for entry onto the foundation course, but their predicted grades were lower (and they did not meet the GCSE requirements for the regular course), has it been possible for them to immediately progress onto the first-year course despite applying for the foundation year course, such has been the case with other universities?
If so, what would the requirements be for such a situation?
Our response:
When we get final results, we would consider moving a student, providing there are spaces available on the MBBS Medicine (A100) programme, and that they are accepted on the same level 3 grades as any other student who is also confirmed on the MBBS Medicine programme.
Any student wishing to apply to the MBBS Medicine course must meet the GCSE requirements for the original programme applied for. For further entry requirements please see our website: MBBS Medicine 2025/26 | UEA
