Our teaching
You will be taught by world-leading experts across film, television and media studies, and by creative practitioners with years of experience of working in the film and television industries, including Hollywood, the BBC and Channel 4. Our teaching is designed to equip you with the skills to think critically about the media, and opportunities to create and experiment with a range of practical media to apply your learning to real-world scenarios.
Whether you are drawn more to the theoretical debates around representation, the history of our media and culture, or understanding the relationships between theory and practice, our undergraduate and postgraduate courses offer a modular structure that provide you with the opportunity to choose a pathway that helps you to maximise your academic interests and realise your career goals.
Our modules are based around key concepts and theories in the study of film, television and media. We engage with questions of film, television and media history and their implications for how we understand the contemporary multi-media world, as well as our roles as media producers, critics and consumers.
We design and assess our curriculum around different assessment possibilities and student needs. Our modules are taught through a range of learning and teaching approaches, including lectures, seminars and practical workshops. Our courses are assessed in a variety of ways that are designed to help equip students with the skills and knowledge that employers across the communications and creative industries are looking for. From essays and research projects to video essays, podcasts, scripts, documentary films, and live television broadcasts, our courses and assessments are designed to stretch you, engage you and inspire you to do your best.
