A world-class organisation
We have built an outstanding international reputation that has been recognised by ‘The Times Higher Education’, which in 2016, ranked us as one of the world’s top 150 universities. At the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, we enhance that reputation. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, an impressive 85 per cent of our output is officially described as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. Our researchers and facilities focus on developing translational research themes that answer important health questions, from an understanding of the basic mechanisms and genetics of disease through to clinical trials and from there to incorporation into clinical guidelines and evaluation within the broader health care community. The research priorities of the Norwich Medical School are of international quality and contribute towards key themes across Norwich Research Park (NRP), including food and health, environmental sustainability and healthy ageing.
Shaping the present and the future
Our reputation for excellence creates important opportunities. According to the General Medical Council’s 2014 report, the Norwich Medical School is producing the most work-ready junior doctors in the whole of the UK, and we are using this reputation to recruit the finest international medical students on to the MB BS programme. It also allows us to develop the skills of vast numbers of learners through some of the best online learning: across UEA right now we’re helping more than 120,000 active users from across the globe.
In our modern facilities on the NRP, a life science centre of excellence located just two hours from London, we’re providing towards the future of our own National Health Service. Our contracts with major hospitals and primary care providers mean we’re entrusted with the continuing professional development of their doctors, nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and organisational leaders.
