The University of East Anglia (UEA) has appointed Professor Frances Bowen as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor for Social Sciences.
Professor Bowen will join UEA on 1 September 2018 and will head up the Social Sciences Faculty which includes Norwich Business School, School of International Development, School of Economics, School of Education and Lifelong Learning, School of Law, School of Psychology and School of Social Work. She will also lead on a number of cross-institutional initiatives.
Professor Bowen, who is currently the Dean of the School of Business and Management and Professor of Innovation at Queen Mary University of London, said: “I have been aware of the great research and teaching at UEA since I applied to study the MA in development studies more than 20 years ago. I’m looking forward to supporting staff and students across the social sciences to make a difference, both on and off campus.”
UEA Vice-Chancellor David Richardson, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Professor Bowen will be joining UEA, she has a wealth of experience which will help the University to fulfill its vision and plan in the coming five years.”
Prof Bowen holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from University of Oxford, an MA in Economics from Northeastern University, and a PhD in Management from the University of Bath.
She began her career as a Lecturer in Business Strategy at the University of Sheffield before moving to the University of Calgary in 2003 to take up a position as an Assistant Professor at the Haskayne School of Business. She was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, took up the Directorship of the International Resource Industries and Sustainability Centre in 2007 and became the Associate Dean for Research in 2010.
In 2011 she moved to Queen Mary University of London as a Professor of Innovation, and prior to her current Dean role, which she assumed in 2016, she was the Director of Research at the School of Business and Management between 2014 and 2015.
