The UEA Autumn Literary Festival kicks off on 5 October 2016 with Prof Chris Bigsby in conversation with Whitbread Book of the Year Award winner David Lodge, whose novels include Changing Places and How Far Can You Go?
The festival run until 23 November, with Prof Bigsby talking to a total of eight guests from the literary world.
“The pleasure of the festival is that we will be hearing a wide variety of voices from prize-winning writers who work in a wide variety of forms, including the novel, biography, history, the essay and theatre,” said Prof Bigsby.
On 12 October, Antony Beevor, who received the Pritzker Military Museum & Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing in 2014, talks about his life and work, followed by former Royal Marine, Special Boat Service officer, MP, Liberal Democrat leader and now author, Paddy Ashdown, on 19 October.
Actor Bernard Hill speaks about his many film and stage credits – most famously King Theoden in The Lord of the Rings – on 26 October, with adult and children’s fiction writer and Booker Prize winner Penelope Lively featuring on 2 November, multiple-award-winning author and winner of the Frankfurt Peace Prize David Grossman on 8 November, and prize-winning and best-selling author Richard Holmes on 16 November.
The festival concludes on 23 November with Rose Tremain, UEA’s former Chancellor and prize-winning author of novels including the Sunday Express Book of the Year Award-winning Restoration.
