he University of East Anglia (UEA) has been placed 23rd in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) Golden Age University Rankings 2018, it has been announced.
The Golden Age University Rankings cover universities established in the two decades between 1945 and 1967, with 200 institutions from 44 different countries in the mix.
THE describes this period as the “Golden Age” in global higher education, characterised by rapid university expansion and increasing investment in research.
Now in its second year, the prestigious table applies the same rigorous 13 performance indicators as the overall THE World University Rankings - with universities measured across their teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
After getting the go-ahead to build in 1960, the Earlham golf course on the outskirts of Norwich was chosen as the site of the UEA campus, and work began in 1961. The University welcomed its first cohort of 87 students in 1963 (students pictured above), and is now home to around 17,000 students.
Prof David Richardson, UEA Vice-Chancellor, said: “To be recognised so highly on a global scale, against similarly-aged universities, is a tremendous achievement for the University. We celebrated 50 years of providing high-quality teaching and research in 2013, and we look forward to another 50 years of success.”
