The University works with a range of external funding organisations to secure support for its research, knowledge transfer and commercialisation activities. Some of these funds are available to businesses and organisations who wish to partner with staff at the University, perhaps on a research or commercial project.

Very few projects receive full funding and most funders will expect organisations to contribute to the cost of a project. Contributions might be a cash contribution to the overall costs of the project or in kind support such as providing staff time or access to facilities.
Current funding opportunities
EIRA: Enabling Innovation - Research to Application
EIRA is driving economic growth in the East of England by providing businesses with access to academic expertise, facilities and funding opportunities. Funded by Research England, it is a collaborative project between seven universities and colleges. The aim of EIRA is to support the national Industrial Strategy in supporting innovation and increasing productivity by transforming the way businesses connect with universities and colleges.
EIRA offers support across three themes: artificial intelligence, biotech and digital creative.
Opportunities are available for businesses of all sizes to work with UEA academics through majority-funded grants including:
- Innovation Vouchers up to £7.5k
- Research and Development grants up to £50k
You can also access UEA student and graduate talent through Innovation Internships and involvement in i-Teams or Hothouse events.
Invest East – Investment Readiness Programme
Invest East is an ERDF funded project being run by UEA, Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils and the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership. The project is intended to boost high-growth businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk by delivering innovative and targeted campaigns to help the region’s businesses and economy to grow.
As part of the project, the Innovation Funding team at UEA is driving an Investment Readiness programme aimed at supporting SMEs looking for investment to grow. The programme runs until 2021 and will have four cohorts of businesses. Each cohort will be taken through a four-month journey to prepare them to take on investment. Each company will be given one-to-one support, mentoring, group sessions, seminars and access to networking events.

Low Carbon Innovation Fund
The Low Carbon Innovation Fund is a co investment fund operated by the University of East Anglia that can invest between £25k and £1M into companies whose products or services reduce carbon emissions. www.lowcarbonfund.co.uk
Start-ups and small and medium-sized businesses from across the UK can apply for an Innovation Voucher worth up to £5000, which is available to businesses to work with a supplier for the first time, and should be used to pay for knowledge or technology transfer from that supplier.
Once you have submitted an online application it will be entered into a draw, which take place every three months. Approximately 100 successful vouchers are then issued. You will be informed if you have been successful or unsuccessful. If you are unsuccessful in receiving an voucher, you can try again. You can only have one live application at a time.
There is no deadline for submissions; each submission will be go towards the next draw deadline which occur quarterly (January, April, July, and October).
