In 2019-20 Research England is distributing £68 million from the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) to English Higher Education Providers (HEPs) in receipt of quality-related (QR) funding.
Research England has recognised UEA’s research contribution to international development by allocating QR GCRF funding to support international development research projects across the University. The UEA’s institutional strategy was approved for funding over the three years to support a wide range of initiatives compliant with Official Development Assistance.
The QR GCRF allocation is managed internally by the UEA’s International Research Office for the purpose of pump-priming new international collaborations and enabling extension of existing ones. In order to mitigate risks, share good practice and provide assurance to our funders that overseas Research Organisations have the capacity and expertise to carry out the research, UEA is required to undertake due diligence processes during the preparation and evaluation of GCRF QR projects.
Funding is disseminated through internal calls (Rapid Response, Global Talent Research Fellowships and Faculty Funds) and has so far supported over 80 projects in the Global South.
